हादसा जमालपुर कलां गांव के पास हुआ, जब परीक्षण के लिए चलाई गई रेलगाड़ी 100 से 120 किलोमीटर प्रतिघंटा की रफ्तार से गुजर रही थी। उसकी चपेट में आकर रेलवे लाइन से गुजर रहे चार लोगों की मौके पर ही मौत हो गयी ।
हरिद्वार के वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधीक्षक सेंथिल अवूदई कृष्ण राज एस ने हादसे में चार व्यक्तियों के मारे जाने की पुष्टि करते हुए कहा कि फिलहाल मृतकों की शिनाख्त की जा रही है।
इधर, मुख्यमंत्री त्रिवेंद्र सिंह रावत ने इस घटना पर गहरा शोक व्यक्त किया है। उन्होंने मृतकों के परिजन के प्रति संवेदना प्रकट करते हुए जिलाधिकारी को घटना की जांच करने के निर्देश दिये हैं।
गौरतलब है कि हरिद्वार—लक्सर के बीच डबल रेलवे लाइन बिछाई गई है और इस पर तेज गति की रेलगाड़ी चलाकर लाइन का परीक्षण किया जा रहा था। इसके लिए दिल्ली से रेलगाड़ी लाई गई थी।
