एंटी रेट्रो थैरेपी (एआरटी) दवा से एचआईवी एड्स से छुटकारा नहीं मिलता है, लेकिन नियमित रूप से दवा खाने से एचआईवी संक्रमित मरीज की उम्र बढ़ती है। प्रदेश में सात माह के भीतर 306 एचआईवी संक्रमित मिले हैं। 2006 से अक्तूबर 2020 तक प्रदेश में एचआईवी एड्स रोगियों की संख्या पांच हजार से अधिक पहुंच गई है। एचआईवी रोगियों की सुविधा के लिए मंगलवार से प्रदेश में पांच और एआरटी केंद्र शुरू होंगे।

राज्य एड्स नियंत्रण समिति के पिछले पांच सालों के आंकड़ों के आधार पर प्रदेश में एचआईवी जांच बढ़ने से संक्रमित मरीज बढ़ रहे हैं। वर्ष 2017-18 में 2.8 लाख एचआईवी जांच की गई। इसमें 967 एचआईवी पॉजिटिव मिले। इसी तरह 2018-19 में 2.83 लाख जांच में 1075 संक्रमित, 2019-20 में 3.28 लाख जांच में 1040 एचआईवी पॉजिटिव मिले हैं। चालू वित्तीय वर्ष में अप्रैल से अक्तूबर तक सात महीने में 1.29 लाख टेस्ट कर 306 एचआईवी संक्रमित रोगी मिले हैं।
प्रदेश में 146 एचआईवी जांच केंद्र हैं। जहां पर निशुल्क जांच की सुविधा उपलब्ध है, जबकि दून मेडिकल कॉलेज, हल्द्वानी मेडिकल कॉलेज और जिला अस्पताल पिथौरागढ़ में एआरटी सेंटर संचालित है। जहां पर एचआईवी मरीजों को दवाइयां और काउंसिलिंग की जाती है। विश्व एड्स दिवस पर एम्स ऋषिकेश, हिमालयन हास्पिटल, श्री महंत इन्दिरेश हास्पिटल, श्रीनगर मेडिकल कालेज व उप जिला अस्पताल रुड़की में एआरटी केंद्र शुरू होंगे।

4314 एचआईवी संक्रमित ले रहे एआरटी दवा:
प्रदेश में एचआईवी रोगियों की संख्या पांच हजार से अधिक है, लेकिन इसमें 4314 ही एआरटी की दवा ले रहे हैं। संक्रमितों की आसानी से दवा उपलब्ध हो। इसके लिए प्रदेश में 16 लिंक एआरटी केंद्र संचालित हैं।

एआरटी दवा को नियमित खाने से एचआईवी संक्रमित रोगी की आयु बढ़ती है, लेकिन इस दवा से रोग से मुक्ति नहीं मिलती है। इस बार विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने एड्स दिवस के लिए सार्वभौमिक एकता व साझा जिम्मेदारी थीम रखी है। एचआईवी रोगी के साथ भेदभाव नहीं करें। यह हम सब की जिम्मेदारी है। प्रदेश में पांच हजार से अधिक एचआईवी संक्रमित हैं।
